An article on Rhythm provided more details on the forthcoming book, as well as a preview of advanced art, shared below. Amelia Aierwood is the daughter of the “awkward black sheep” of one of LA’s most prominent witch families, who also stars in their own reality TV show. Described as a “late bloomer”, Amelia’s spells often backfire, such as one that fused a witch’s hat permanently onto her head. Considered a slacker by her celebrity-obsessed family, Amelia must, in the words of editor Z2, find her own way “outside the influence of her family”. Rhythm The article went on to quote Emily Hampshire, who revealed she had channeled her “quiet inner witch” for the project and called working on the project “a dream”. Similarly, collaborators in Hampshire praised her; co-writer Rahal called for work on Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch with Hampshire a “positive line, both personally and professionally”. The book is currently available for pre-order in a variety of formats, including signed editions by Hampshire and its collaborators. The company will also produce prints (shared below), enamel pins, and even an Amelia Aierwood lunch box.

The advanced art shared in Rhythm the article shows Amelia struggling with fame, sweating profusely while being photographed by paparazzi; another shows Amelia on her phone, no doubt scrolling through social media. These scenes of Amelia’s struggles are fancifully depicted, and that was deliberate on Hampshire’s part; Co-author Rahal reportedly said Hampshire wanted to create a “sweet and silly” book. Beyond by Amelia Aierwood fantasy, it is also linked to many young adults, who struggle to find themselves under the pressure of their families and society.

Emily Hampshire is perhaps best known to fans for her award-winning roles in Schitt’s Creek and 12 monkeysbut she is also a writer, and will publish her first graphic novel, Amelia Aierwood: Basic WitchLater this year.
