Officers hear gunshots, find 1 dead in Steele Creek apartment complex – WSOC TV

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say one person died at an apartment complex in Steele Creek on Saturday morning.

The CMPD said their officers heard gunshots around 3:30 a.m. and were heading towards the shooting, which was taking place on Hillgrove Lane, a road off Steele Creek Road and just north of Westinghouse Boulevard.

Upon arrival, officers said they found several casings in the parking lot and one seriously injured person. The police did not specify the nature of his injuries. Paramedics said he died in an apartment there, according to the CMPD.

A neighbour, who does not want to be identified, told Channel 9 she woke up in the middle of the night and saw glass on the floor. She showed us where a bullet went through a window and straight into her living room.

“This neighborhood is just getting dangerous,” she said. “I feel here, in danger. We just moved into this house three years ago. It made me think if I want to continue living in this neighborhood, in this area.

She also said she believed the suspect was just shooting indiscriminately.

“I heard gunshots coming in my hallway, or at least there, and then in that direction he ran, continuing to shoot,” she said. “I don’t know where the person was hit, did he hit him and he kept running and shooting? I could tell it was gunshots.

Police have not shared information on how the shooting happened or if they are looking for a suspect in the case, but Channel 9 has reached out to find out more.
