James Van Der Beek has revealed his sixth child came as a surprise as he and his wife Kimberly Brook are no longer trying for children.

The Dawson’s Creek star, 45, welcomed child number six with his second wife in November, with the couple already proud parents of Olivia, 11, Joshua, 10, Annabel, 8, Emilia, 6 years old and Gwendolyn, 3 years old.

And although he didn’t plan to have a sixth child, the actor thanked God for blessing the couple with baby Remi.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday night, James shared a selection of snaps of him lovingly holding the youngster.

In the first image, James is seen planting a kiss on the toddler’s head as he watches the sunrise.

He captioned the post: “Thank goodness for the surprises. For the detours. For those times the universe heard my plans and said, ‘Yeah, that’s cute… try THIS.’

“We weren’t trying to have more kids. We were done. But luckily this fat little angel knew better.

“And when I hold it, I’m reminded of the benevolent forces out there who are probably mocking my agenda and waiting for me to throw away my ‘clarity’ for an enhanced reality.”

He finished the sweet post: “Thank goodness for the surprises…and thank goodness we’re GORGEOUS we don’t get pregnant.”

James previously revealed he was “terrified” to find out Kimberly was pregnant after the 40-year-old had already suffered multiple miscarriages due to a weakened cervix.

The couple tied the knot 11 years ago after meeting in Israel in 2009.

They announced the birth of Remi in a cute Instagram post showing the tot lying on top of his dad.

James wrote at the time: “Humbled and delighted to announce the safe and happy arrival of Jeremiah Van Der Beek (we call him Remi, by the way – not ‘dinosaur’)”, he wrote. It starts.

He went on to talk about the couple’s last two pregnancies which ended in heartbreak due to late pregnancy loss.

He added, “Each child brings their own energy, their own manifestation of consciousness, their own lessons.

“Those we lost each gave us different pieces of the puzzle…leaving us all the more grateful for the ongoing masterclass we are enjoying with this kind and wise little one.

“(ps – To all of our community members – both local and extended – who knew about our journey and honored our desire for privacy…thank you. May this respect and karma return to you a thousand times over) Life is beautiful.”
