Creek Side Resort in Hays will begin showing outdoor movies starting this weekend.

Outdoor films will be screened on weekends until October. They are camping equipment. Anyone who has rented a tent or RV site or cabin will have walk-in access to the outdoor theater.

“This is just one more addition to an amenity that we can provide not only to the community, but also to our travelers off I-70,” said Kac’Rae Patterson, general manager of the resort.

The resort is located at the 3301 US 183 bypass, near exit 157 off Interstate 70.

Concessions will also be offered. Films will begin approximately at dusk.

The films will be family-oriented and will include theme nights, Patterson said. For example, the station is planning a princess night out and will encourage girls to dress up as their favorite princesses and a superhero night out.

The station will typically show the films two weekends in a row.

The cinema area has a few picnic tables, but moviegoers will be encouraged to bring their own seats.

The station will have cardboard cars for kids to sit in and pose for pictures.

Watch Creekside’s Facebook page for more information on scheduled films.

A tent site costs $15 per night. You don’t have to pitch a tent if you just want to use the facilities for the evening and don’t plan to stay overnight, Patterson said.

RV sites are $39 per night. Cabins cost $100 per night, depending on the weekend.

The resort has three finished cabins but is in the process of building eight more. It has 69 pitches for motorhomes and 33 pitches for tents. Most RV sites have water, sewer, and electrical hookups.

The resort also just opened a new clubhouse, which includes showers, laundry facilities, and a fitness center.

Creek Side opened in 2019 and has seen business grow steadily, Patterson said.

“We’ve just gotten busier and busier,” she said. “We just added additional sites.”

Other resort amenities include a playground, dog park, gazebo, duck pond, community fire pits, propane station, and horse stalls.

Sites can be reserved through the Creek Side Resort website or by calling 785-259-0927.
